How long it usually takes
On the day, the document check, private consent interviews, affidavits and the ceremony usually take a few hours. Registration and issue of the NADRA certificate through the Union Council normally take from several days to a few weeks. Nothing beyond the Nikah itself is same-day.
How to start
Send clear photos of both CNICs, two witnesses’ CNICs and any earlier divorce or death certificate on WhatsApp. We confirm whether a same-day appointment is realistic, list anything missing and give you a time at the office.

Conditions for a Same Day Nikah in Karachi
- Both bride and groom are 18 or over, as required in Sindh by the Sindh Child Marriages Restraint Act 2013.
- Both attend in person (or the absent party has a properly attested power of attorney for a proxy).
- Original CNICs are available and match the details sent on WhatsApp.
- Two adult witnesses attend with their CNICs.
- Any earlier marriage has ended, with documents to prove it, and the woman’s iddat is complete.
- Both parties consent freely when interviewed separately by the lawyer.

Registration and the Certificate Follow Later
Why Registration Is Not Same-Day
The Muslim Family Laws Ordinance 1961 requires the Nikah to be registered by the Nikah Registrar of the area, who enters it in the official register and sends copies onward. That process runs on the Registrar’s and Union Council’s schedule, so no honest lawyer can promise it on the day of the ceremony.
Why the NADRA Certificate Takes Longer
The computerised marriage certificate is issued by the Union Council through NADRA’s system only after the registration is on record. Anyone offering a NADRA certificate on the day of the Nikah is either misdescribing the document or bypassing the registration that gives it meaning. We track the certificate and tell you when it is ready.
After You Leave Our Office
You leave with signed copies of the Nikah Nama and affidavits. We then follow registration with the Nikah Registrar and the issue of the NADRA certificate through the Union Council, and message you when each is ready. Each spouse later applies to NADRA separately to update marital status on the CNIC.

Same Day Nikah in Karachi for Overseas Pakistanis
Visitors with a return ticket often want the Nikah before they fly. We can perform it on the day, then follow up registration and the certificate after you leave. If the certificate is needed for a spouse visa, ask us early about attestation and translation so the documents are ready when the embassy asks.
Foreign Nationals Marrying in Karachi
A foreign spouse attends with a valid passport and visa. Where the foreign spouse is Muslim, the same Nikah procedure applies; where faiths differ, specific legal advice is required before any date is fixed. Allow extra time for document review, as foreign divorce papers may need translation or attestation.
When a Same Day Nikah in Karachi Is Not Possible
- Either party is under 18 or the CNIC is missing.
- An earlier marriage has not been dissolved or the iddat has not ended.

Same Day Nikah in Karachi Versus an “Instant Marriage” Agent
Some agents advertise an instant marriage with a certificate in hand. In practice they may use an unregistered Nikah Khawan, leave columns of the Nikah Nama blank or skip affidavits. Our approach differs: the ceremony is quick, but every legal check is done and the later steps are explained honestly before you pay.
Getting the Paperwork Right on the Day
Dower and the Nikah Nama Entries on the Day
Speed should never mean blank columns. The dower amount, whether it is prompt or deferred, any conditions agreed between the parties and the column on the delegated right of divorce are discussed with the bride and groom before the ceremony, so that both understand exactly what they are signing.
Choosing Your Two Witnesses
Witnesses must be adults who attend in person with their original CNICs. Friends or relatives are fine. Their names and CNIC numbers are written in the Nikah Nama, and they may be asked to confirm the ceremony later, so choose people you can contact again if the marriage is ever questioned.
If Either of You Was Married Before
A divorced or widowed woman needs her divorce certificate, khula decree or the husband’s death certificate, and her iddat must have ended. A man who already has a wife needs the Arbitration Council’s written permission. Without these documents we will not proceed, because the Nikah could later be challenged.

Is the Nikah valid before registration?
A Nikah performed with offer, acceptance, two witnesses and free consent of adults is a Nikah under Muslim personal law. Registration is a legal requirement under the 1961 Ordinance and provides official proof, so it must still be completed.

Can a same-day Nikah be done if one of us is abroad?
It can, where the absent party has appointed a proxy (wakeel) by a properly attested power of attorney. We need to see the authority in advance, so allow extra time for review before fixing the date.
Do we need parental consent?
An adult Muslim woman may marry without her wali’s consent, as held in PLD 2004 SC 219. What is essential is that both parties are 18 or over and consent freely, which our lawyer confirms with each of them separately.
Why might you refuse a same-day appointment?
If a party is under 18, an earlier marriage is not dissolved, iddat has not ended, required permission is missing, or either party appears to be under pressure. In those cases speed would put the marriage and the couple at risk.
