Who can have a court marriage in Multan
Both parties must consent freely and must not be under any legal bar, such as an undissolved earlier marriage. Multan is in Punjab, where the law passed by the Punjab Assembly in April 2026 sets 18 as the minimum age for both parties — the same as Sindh. We verify age from the CNIC and assist only adults aged 18 or over.
Under the Saima Waheed line of authority, an adult Muslim woman may marry without her wali's consent.

Court marriage in Multan: points couples often miss
Union Council jurisdiction
The Nikah is registered where the Nikah Registrar is licensed; that office later issues the certificate.
Earlier talaq
A talaq is effective only after the section 7 MFLO procedure; check before remarrying.
Copies
Keep certified copies of affidavits and the Nikah Nama in case of complaints.
If the family files a complaint
After a court marriage, a family sometimes reports the woman as abducted. Her free-will affidavit and, if required, her statement before a magistrate are central. The associate lawyer can advise on protection petitions where there is a real threat.
Overseas spouse in Multan
Where one spouse is abroad, a Nikah through a vakil may be arranged, subject to the foreign country's visa rules. See online Nikah in Karachi for how the authority document works.
Court marriage in Multan: the legal essentials explained
Offer and acceptance
The Nikah is concluded by an offer from one party and acceptance by the other in the same sitting. The words may be in Urdu, Saraiki, Arabic or any language both parties understand, so long as the intention to marry now is clear.
Witnesses
Two adult Muslim witnesses must hear the offer and acceptance. Under the Hanafi school, followed by most Muslims in Multan, the witnesses are two men or one man and two women. Their CNICs are recorded on the Nikah Nama.
Dower
A dower (haq mehr) must be agreed or, if not specified, is presumed. Write the amount and the prompt and deferred portions clearly. Under section 10 of the MFLO 1961, if the mode of payment is not specified, the whole dower is presumed payable on demand.
Why the Nikah Nama matters after a court marriage in Multan
Many couples treat the Nikah Nama as a formality. It is not. In later years it is the document that proves the marriage for a CNIC update, a child's B-form, a passport or a spouse visa, and it is the first document a Family Court reads in any dispute about dower or divorce. The column on delegated divorce (talaq-e-tafweez) and the declaration about any existing wife both carry real consequences.
Our Karachi team reviews the draft Nikah Nama with you before signature, even when the Nikah itself is in Multan, so that the entries are correct the first time.
After the court marriage in Multan: updating your records
- Collect the registered Nikah Nama and confirm the Union Council entry.
- Obtain the computerised NADRA marriage certificate through that Union Council.
- Update marital status on the CNIC at a NADRA centre if you wish; the wife may add or omit the husband's name.
- Register children's births and B-forms in due course using the marriage record.
- For use abroad, arrange Ministry of Foreign Affairs attestation.

What we will not do
- Arrange a Nikah where either party is under 18.
- Proceed where there is any sign that consent is not free.
- Arrange a second marriage for a married man without Arbitration Council permission.
- Back-date documents or record false information on the Nikah Nama.

Foreign spouses marrying in Multan
A foreign national may marry a Pakistani in Multan, subject to the applicable law and their own documents — a passport with a valid visa or entry record, and any certificate of no impediment their country issues. The associate lawyer reviews these before the date is fixed.
Common delays and how to avoid them
- Witnesses arriving without original CNICs.
- Names on the CNIC differing from those used on the day.
- A previous divorce never processed through the Union Council.
- Dower not agreed in advance between the families or parties.

Why court marriage is coordinated from Karachi
Court marriage is handled through our Lahore desk because we do not have our own office in south Punjab. Our Karachi team still checks every document, so a court marriage meets the same standards as one in Karachi — adult parties, free consent, a correct Nikah Nama and registration with the Union Council.
If you prefer, you can travel to Karachi or Lahore instead. Whichever city you choose, a court marriage or elsewhere follows the same Islamic essentials and registration rules.
- Documents checked before the date is fixed.
- Free-will affidavits prepared for both parties.
- Nikah Nama reviewed before signature.
- Registration followed up with the Union Council.
Bring these on the day
- Original CNICs of bride, groom and two witnesses.
- Photographs of both parties.
- Any divorce certificate or decree.
Consent, safety and family complaints
Where relatives oppose a court marriage, the couple should keep certified copies of the affidavits and Nikah Nama and, if threatened, approach the police or the court for protection. A woman's own statement of free consent is usually decisive if a false complaint of abduction is made.
