Nikah Khawan in Karachi is the person who performs the Nikah: he conducts the khutba, asks for the bride's and groom's consent in the presence of witnesses and records the marriage in the Nikah Nama. Families often need one at short notice, and the paperwork he completes decides how smoothly registration goes afterwards.

Karachi Lawyers arranges Nikah ceremonies at homes, halls, mosques and at our own offices in Gulistan-e-Jauhar (Mezzanine Floor, Muneer Mobile Mall, Block 17, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Karachi) and DHA Phase 7 (Mezzanine Floor, Main Jami Commercial, Phase 7, DHA, Karachi). WhatsApp +92 333 1127830 with the date, area and number of guests.

Nikah Khawan in Karachi performing a Nikah at home

Executive Summary: Arranging a Nikah Khawan in Karachi

What the service is

We arrange a Nikah Khawan and, where needed, the licensed Nikah Registrar for your ceremony, prepare the Nikah Nama in advance, check the identity documents and witnesses, and follow up on registration with the Union Council so that the NADRA marriage certificate can be obtained.

Who needs it

Families holding a Nikah at home or in a hall, couples marrying in a mosque or a simple office ceremony, overseas Pakistanis visiting Karachi for a short time, and anyone who wants the Nikah Nama completed correctly the first time.

Fee basis

The fee is quoted after we know the date, venue, area of Karachi and what you need, such as the ceremony only or the ceremony with registration follow-up. We do not publish a fixed fee because these details change the work involved.

Time it usually takes

The ceremony itself is short. Arrangements are best made a few days ahead, although we try to help at short notice. Registration and the NADRA certificate follow afterwards and take longer; we never promise same-day registration or certificate.

How to start

Send the date, venue, both parties' CNICs and the names of the witnesses on WhatsApp to +92 333 1127830. We reply the same working day, confirm the arrangements and tell you if any further document is needed.

Advocate-led since 1985

Our firm has been advocate-led since 1985. Nikah arrangements are supervised by Tahir Pervez Qureshi and Khalid Mumtaz, Advocates High Court, who check the Nikah Nama and documents before the ceremony.

Nikah Khawan and Nikah Registrar: The Difference

The Nikah Khawan performs the religious ceremony. The Nikah Registrar is licensed by the Union Council under the Muslim Family Laws Ordinance 1961 to register marriages. Sometimes one person does both. Where the Nikah is performed by someone other than the Registrar, the law requires it to be reported to the Registrar for registration.

This distinction matters. A Nikah performed but never registered is difficult to prove later, especially for a NADRA marriage certificate, a passport, a family registration certificate or a spouse visa.

Legal Requirements Before the Ceremony

  • Both the bride and groom must be adults, 18 or over; in Sindh the Sindh Child Marriages Restraint Act 2013 fixes 18 as the minimum age for both.
  • The free consent of the bride is essential; a Nikah without it is not acceptable to us.
  • An adult Muslim woman may marry without her wali's consent, as the Supreme Court held in Hafiz Abdul Waheed v. Asma Jehangir (PLD 2004 SC 219).
  • Two adult witnesses must be present, with their CNICs.
  • Original CNICs of the bride and groom, and proof of the end of any earlier marriage where relevant.
  • Where the groom has an existing wife, permission under section 6 of the Muslim Family Laws Ordinance 1961 must be considered first.

How Our Nikah Khawan in Karachi Fills the Nikah Nama

The Nikah Nama is a prescribed form with columns for the parties' details, the wali or representatives, the witnesses, the amount and mode of dower (haq mehr), any special conditions, and whether the husband delegates a right of divorce to the wife. Many families fill it in hastily on the day and regret it later.

We discuss the columns with both sides before the ceremony, so the dower, conditions and delegation are recorded exactly as agreed. For a detailed column-by-column explanation see our Nikah Nama guide.

Dower Explained by Our Nikah Khawan in Karachi

Haq mehr is the wife's right, and it should be fixed clearly. The Nikah Nama records the amount and whether it is paid at once (prompt) or deferred to a later date or on demand. Property, gold or cash may be given as dower, and any part paid at the time should be noted.

Vague entries cause disputes years later, especially on divorce or death. Our advocates explain the options to both families before the ceremony so that what is written matches what was agreed.

Previously Married Parties

Where the bride was married before, proof that the earlier marriage ended is needed: a divorce decree, a certificate showing that Talaq has become effective under the Muslim Family Laws Ordinance 1961, or the former husband's death certificate, and the iddat period must have passed. Where the groom is divorced or widowed, similar documents are needed. We check these papers before the date is fixed.

Nikah Now, Rukhsati Later

Some families hold the Nikah first and the rukhsati months later. The marriage is complete once the Nikah is performed and should be registered without waiting for the rukhsati. Registration early protects both spouses, particularly when one of them plans to travel or apply for a visa in the meantime.

Lost or Damaged Nikah Nama

If the Nikah Nama is lost or damaged, a copy can usually be obtained from the Nikah Registrar or the Union Council where the marriage was registered. Keep the registration details safe from the start. Where the marriage was never registered, legal advice is needed on how to put the record right.

Witnesses and Their Role

Witnesses confirm that the offer and acceptance took place and that consent was freely given. They sign the Nikah Nama and their CNIC details are recorded. Choose adults who are likely to be available in future, because a witness may be asked to confirm the marriage if it is ever disputed.

Steps on the Day with Your Nikah Khawan in Karachi

  1. Documents are checked again: CNICs of both parties and witnesses, and any earlier divorce or death certificate.
  2. The bride's consent is obtained in the presence of witnesses, and she signs the Nikah Nama.
  3. The Nikah Khawan reads the khutba and conducts the offer and acceptance (ijab o qabool).
  4. The groom, witnesses and representatives sign the Nikah Nama.
  5. Copies are made and the original is taken for registration with the Nikah Registrar.

Registration and the NADRA Marriage Certificate

After the Nikah is registered by the Nikah Registrar, the Union Council enters it in NADRA's system and issues the computerised marriage registration certificate. This certificate is what passport offices, embassies and NADRA itself usually ask for. Times vary between Union Councils, so we follow up rather than promise a date. See NADRA marriage certificate facts.

Frequently asked questions

Can you send a Nikah Khawan to our home?

Yes. We arrange a Nikah Khawan for ceremonies at homes, halls and mosques across Karachi, as well as at our Gulistan-e-Jauhar and DHA Phase 7 offices. Share the date, area and timing on WhatsApp so we can confirm availability.

Is a Nikah Khawan the same as a Nikah Registrar?

Not always. The Nikah Khawan performs the ceremony; the Nikah Registrar is licensed by the Union Council to register the marriage. Sometimes one person does both. Either way, the Nikah must be registered.

What documents are needed for the Nikah?

Original CNICs of the bride, groom and two adult witnesses, and, where either party was married before, the divorce, Talaq effectiveness or death certificate. Passports may be needed for overseas parties.

What is the minimum age for marriage in Karachi?

Both parties must be at least 18. The Sindh Child Marriages Restraint Act 2013 fixes 18 as the minimum age for both bride and groom in Sindh, and our firm does not arrange any Nikah involving a minor.

Does the bride need her wali's permission?

An adult Muslim woman may marry of her own free will without her wali's consent, as held by the Supreme Court in Hafiz Abdul Waheed v. Asma Jehangir (PLD 2004 SC 219). Her free consent is essential in every case.

How many witnesses are required?

Two adult witnesses should be present at the Nikah, with their CNICs. Their details and signatures are recorded in the Nikah Nama. Choose witnesses who will be reachable in future.

Can the dower and conditions be decided in advance?

Yes, and they should be. We go through the Nikah Nama with both sides before the ceremony so the dower, any conditions and any delegated right of divorce are recorded exactly as agreed.

When will we receive the NADRA marriage certificate?

After the Nikah is registered, the Union Council issues the computerised certificate through NADRA's system. Timing varies, so we follow up with the Union Council rather than promise a date. Same-day certificates are not guaranteed.

Can you arrange a Nikah at short notice?

We try to help at short notice, subject to availability and documents being complete. Booking a few days ahead is better, especially for Friday and weekend ceremonies, and gives time to check documents properly.

How much does a Nikah Khawan cost?

The fee is quoted after we know the venue, area, date and whether you need registration follow-up. We confirm it before the booking so there are no surprises on the day.
